Description of works
RJT Excavations Ltd were contracted by Luddon Construction Ltd to carry out the main earthworks and associated drainage for the development of a new substation adjacent to the existing substation at Coalburn North.
Works included within RJT Excavations scope of works:
- Topsoil strip and stockpile on site – 27,100m3.
- Installation of pre-earthworks ditches and drainage.
- Bulk excavation cut and fill to design line and level, in line with project specification – 120,000m3.
- Forming of SUDS ponds.
- Compaction and testing in line with project specification.
- Laying Geotextile separating layer.
- Importing of aggregates and spread across site – 11,500m3.
- 1200m of associated drainage.
- Assist in the construction of a new culvert.
- Services and utilities.
- Ground conditions and suitability of site won materials for use as upfill.
- Weather conditions.
- Environmental constraints – Surface water management.
- Follow-on contractors with tight programme timescales.
- Achieving handover of platform before key date.
- Positive relationship with main contractor and site team.
- Forward planning and identification of potential risks to the project and timescales.
